If you have questions about the referendum, here's your chance to ask them

We are happy to announce we will be having Ripon School Superintendent, Richard Zimman, on the show this coming Thursday (we believe at 8:15am) to discuss the upcoming referendum for the district. We also will be taking listener questions, both live and through email. If you have a question you would like us to ask, please email it before 8:00 Thursday morning to either news@wrpnam.com or studio@wrpnam.com

If you would like to ask the question directly to Dr. Zimman, you may call 748-5111 or toll free at 1-800-867-1610 that morning. Keep in mind, we are looking for direct questions that are about the referendum only and can be answered by Dr. Zimman. We will not tolerate any swearing, insults, mockery or any other negative comments on the air. We are also not here to get into debates or arguments on the air. In other words, please be respectful and tactful when asking your question. This will be a great opportunity for anyone who has questions to get them out in the open, and give Dr. Zimman a chance to give a one-on-one answer.

Addition: We will be treating this like any other radio show which allows callers - meaning we will ask for your name and the general concept of your question BEFORE putting you on the air. This is only so we have a "lead-in" to the person on the phone so it flows better, no other reason than that. If it's an email, please include your name (as I would assume most would). Also, even though we may ask for your full name ahead of time, we WILL NOT use your full name on the air, to protect privacy. We will only use your first name (for both on-air callers and those who email).

We hope to hear from you!

Not too much on the show tomorrow, but everyone has to have a slow day sometimes, right? Also, sorry about the down-time in the blogging and news department. I had the joys of getting a wisdom tooth removed last week, so needless to say I was down for the count for a few days. I'm slowly getting back to normal though :)

Have a great day, it's nice to see the sun out!

A thought on an Appleton story

I have to say, I can't believe a school district is going this far. I understand the idea of "zero tolerance" and protecting our schools...but when it comes to education, and fully understanding things that shaped our history, I can't agree with their decision.

For years, fifth-graders in Appleton learned about the Civil War by being in a mock battle which re-enacts what happened. But that’s gone now, after some parents complained that it goes against efforts to prevent gun violence – and it violates a school policy, which bans look-alike weapons. About 800 fifth-graders will still spend a whole day reading and talking about the Civil War. Nan Bunnow, the director of humanities for the Appleton school district, says principals from the 15 participating grade schools recommended the change. Bunnow says youngsters were disappointed, but only a few parents complained. Some of them called Charlie Sykes’ talk show on W-T-M-J Radio in Milwaukee this morning to complain. Sykes slammed the Appleton district, saying it denied youngsters a realistic lesson about U-S history.

A few more pointers as well...It's now been a week since we've started our new programming on WRPN. If you're not aware, we have The Ed Schultz Show from 11am - 2pm, and Clark Howard from 2pm-3pm. What do you think of the shows?

Also, a sad day over the weekend for the Ripon Tiger Girls, as they fell in the sectional final to Grafton. Even though they didn't make it state, one cannot overlook their amazing season. It was a great team, and for those seniors that won't be back, we say thank you again. As for those who do come back...there's always next year :)

Girls Basketball Tonight

Well, tonight the sectional semi-final for the Ripon Girls takes place against Pewaukee at West Bend West. It seems to match up on paper as a very equal game. Both teams have girls of about the same height (somewhere between 5'7'' and 6'0''), comparable records (Pewaukee: 17-5 Ripon 19-3), and they both love to shoot up the 3-pointer (Pewaukee has made 100 3-point baskets, Ripon's made 104), so theoretically, this should be a very good match up.

My opinion, this game is going to ultimately come down to defense. Pewaukee runs a 1-2-1-1 press on made baskets and falls back into a 2-3 zone. On a missed basket, they normally run back man-to-man. In other words, they use a lot of different defensive strategies. Ripon, on the other hand, runs a lot of zone trap, but lately have been using man-to-man more. Thanks to Jason for a little help...at least the numbers part.

Ripon has made it to the sectionals the last two years - getting beat in the sectional semi-finals last year, and getting beat in the sectional final the year before. Do I think Ripon will pull it out tonight? Yes...but I think it will be a close scoring game, as both are very equal when it comes down to PPG.

My final? Ripon 58 Pewaukee 53

The Ed Schultz Show

Well, hopefully you had the chance to listen to Jason's interview with Ed Schultz this morning on the Breakfast Bunch - but if you didn't, no worries, we have it posted on the main page to listen to again :) A very good interview, I think, and a good response on coming to a radio station in the Birthplace of the Republican Party.

With the way the county is going with a Democratic president, it's a good idea to split air time accordingly - giving both sides the ability to voice their opinions. Being knowledgeable about both sides of an issue (regardless of what side you agree with) can only further productive actions. Of course, everyone is going to eventually take a position on certain topics, but who knows, maybe a different view will enlighten one to something they weren't aware of.

Ed Schultz airs from 11am - 2pm Monday though Friday. Give it a listen. Leave your comments if you'd like - with your name. It's the best way to give feedback to our listeners, and we like to know who are listeners are!

Welcome!

Hello all, and welcome to my blog.

I figured I'd jump on the blog-bandwagon, since they are such a great place to share ideas, talk about topics, and learn a little more about the people in and around our area.

Essentially, the concept of this blog is simple - it will have the basics about AM 1600 WRPN, like upcoming shows, guests, topics, important stories, and updates; but it will also have a little "flair" thrown in by me (I can't have a blog without adding a little of own my opinion). I hope to also ask questions of listeners and get feedback on what we can do for you!

So there's my intro for now - enjoy reading, posting, and most of all, listening to AM 1600 WRPN
